Lungworm warning

Please be aware that lungworm is now in our area.

We have had a number of confirmed cases including one in a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel another in a Cocker Spaniel and another in a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Both have fortunately survived and are making good recoveries, but the Staffie was very sick indeed for a while. Even our vets animals are having problems with both Richard Edward's dog, Harry, and one of Catherine Williams dogs both contracting suspected lungworm.

Lungworm is a particularly nasty disease than can be fatal. it is transmitted via snails and slugs. Given the current level of risk in this area, we now recommend that all clients with at risk dogs should use Advocate monthly. Advocate is the only licenced treatment for lungworm currently. Advocate has the added advantage that it is also a highly effective treatment for fleas.

If you want to know more about lungworm, please see the front page of our Summer 2010 Newsletter, ask at any of our surgeries or visit the Be Lungworm Aware website.
