It may have been a poor start to the summer but it still only take a few minutes of sunshine to heat up the inside of a car, so please never leave pets in cars. Also remember to keep rabbit and guinea pig hutches out of direct sunlight. They can quickly overheat too!
With temperatures rising we are already seeing a rise in flea-related skin problems, so please make sure your parasite control is regular and up to date using effective products.
With new tick species appearing in this country, tick-borne disease are becoming more of a risk. If you are walking your dog in areas where sheep and deer live, then please consider using a Seresto collar. And if you do find a tick on your pet, don’t pull it off - you may leave the head in. Either wind it anticlockwise until it comes out or use a O’Tom Tick Remover tool which is available from all of our surgeries.
Fly strike is also a perennial summer problem for small furries particularly. Check your rabbits and guinea pigs at least twice daily to make sure they haven’t got mucky bottoms.
